Sam Printer, A Background History

Sam Printer was born in a large, primarily Saltwise and Bay Walker community in the Texian-side of the Rum Coast that was very anti-Remnant and other strains. Saltwise and Baywalkers were not allowed to mate, nor with any other strains that came through the community or the rare other strain that was a part, but not a citizen of that community.

Unfortunately for Sam Printer, while a full strain Baywalker, had something happen within his genes, so instead of he smaller, petite physique of most Bay Walkers, he was abnormally large and heavy for a Bay Walker, up to two times their stereotypical size. At the age of 7 his parents could no longer cover his abnormal size he was becoming and fearing rejection amongst their own community, abandoned Sam Printer in the swamps, miles from their home.

Sam Printer somehow survived on his own for a week on his own, stumbled upon another community. This was one of mostly Remnants and rejects from other communities. He was accepted in and the Remnant Remmington took Sam Printer as his foster child. For years, Remnant Remmington taught Sam Printer how to survive and secured Sam a printer apprenticeship to learn a skill.

Sam was not liked within this encampment though. He was large, heavy, and loud. His antics often brought in Zed and other monsters from the world about them and the encampment hated him for it. In truth, as Sam Printer became an adult the community would of certainty kicked him from their shelter. However, a series of unfortunate events was about to take place instead…

When Sam Printer was a teenager and on the cusp of being treated as an adult, he unwittingly led a Raider party back to the encampment and they slaughtered most of the people there, even going as far as waiting for them to re-emerge from the Graveind and slaughtering them again, until nearly the entire encampment had died their final death. Sam Printer hid and watched his family get slaughtered, over and over again. It is believed by Sam Printer, that this included Remnant Remmington. In truth, Remnant Remmington (RR for short), did survive and has been hunting Sam Printer ever since. Whether to forgive or kill Sam Printer, it is unknown and will largely depend on what Sam Printer has done with his life since this event.

Ironically Remnant Remmington will eventually find his way to Bravo, but after Sam Printer has died his final death. If killed in an appropriate manner he will then do his best to revenge his former foster child’s death. Remnant Remmington will be described in his own backstory.

After the slaughter of the encampment, Sam Printer wandered the Burning Wastes for a couple of years, barely surviving and only because he knew when to hide and when to seek shelter from the oppressive heat. During his wanderings he met Waco, a fellow Baywalker who helped start Flotsom and Jetsom in a place called Bravo. He was told to seek out an Adian there and with nothing to lose made his way to Bravo.

Unexpectedly to him, he was not only accepted into the community but soon found work with the Lucky 7 Caravan. Even more surprisingly to him, he made friends and friends who were not only willing to defend him, but mourned him when he lost his life and when he was suffering through Survivor’s Fatigue. This was something he had never experienced before and lit a spark within him. For starters he did not want to cause anyone else’s death protecting him. He would learn to fight and protect himself and if needed his friends. He also discovered that he was drawn to the cult/religion of the Sainthood of Ashes, in remembrance to his former mentor, Remnant Remmington, who he now recognized brought Sam Printer into the encampment because it was the right thing to do. The good thing to do. Despite Sam’s faults, despite his mistakes, he would atone for them and deserve the life he now has.

Edit: Instead of a Remnant, Remington Masters (new backstory name for that character and future player-character) has become a Retrograde, Farmer/Gunslinger/Priest. With the upcoming 3.0 all of this is subject to change.
